Background

Education and improving schools have been lifelong passions for Jen Hirman.  Her formal education serves as a foundation for this effort, with a bachelor's degree concentrating in economics (University of Southern California), a master's degree in education (Stanford University) and PhD in Education Leadership and Policy (Arizona State University).  She’s been a classroom teacher in West Africa with the Peace Corps as well as in the United States.  Additionally, she has worked for the Council on Educational Facility Planners International, Arizona Board of Regents and the USC Center on Educational Governance.

Jen has extensive experience working with parent groups in and around the Everett School District.  She has served on multiple PTA boards at schools which her daughters have attended, as well as at district and region levels within PTA.  Her leadership roles allowed her to work side-by-side with parents and administrators to create school environments where students, teachers and families felt supported and engaged.  Her involvement in the schools also provided the opportunity to serve on several district-wide committees, including the ESD Elementary Math Adoption Team, the Elementary Boundary Committee, and the High School Growth Mitigation Planning Committee.

Since 2022, Jen has served on the Everett School Board as a school director and as the board's legislative representative during the 2023 and 2024 legislative sessions.  She has been an active and engaged board member, participating in Washington State School Director Association (WSSDA) meetings and conferences and traveling to Olympia to meet with legislators to advocate for the needs of our students.

She has been a Mill Creek resident since 2006.  She and her husband have two daughters who have gone through Everett Public Schools.  Their younger daughter is a senior at Henry M. Jackson High School, and their older daughter is a senior at the University of Washington, Seattle campus.  Jen's current community involvement includes volunteering at the Everett Food Pantry (VOAWW) and North Creek Presbyterian Church.
